Sir Steve Redgrave Sculpture - Ongoing Project from 2000

When MBVRA Chairman Alan Jedras announced a decision to commission a piece of sculpture to commemorate Sir Steve Redgrave's fifth gold medal win in the Sydney Olympics during 2000, little did we all realise what stood before us.

Since having made the announcement on the steps of TJ O'Reillys during the victory parade celebrations, which Marlow Bottom and Marlow Town were participating in, it has been an uphill battle to bring the funds together to ensure we can deliver what we promised.

We have so far managed to raise approximately £1700.00 in donations and pledges, but we still need much, much more. At present we have written to The Sports and Arts Foundation Council looking to secure a donation for some £3500.00, but we are having to wait to see whether we are successful with our application.

Twice now we have applied to the Awards for All Commission for funds, but on both occasions we have been unsuccessful in our attempts. If anyone has any thoughts or ideas to enable us to raise the shortfall, please do not hesitate to contact us and let's explore your ideas.

News Update May 2006

Chairman Alan Jedras has pledged to see this project completed before stepping down from the position he has held for some 6 years now. At present we are reviewing what options are open to us with a view to scaling back the project to fit within the budget we have available. News Update February 2008

Ex-Chairman Alan Jedras is still keen to see the project completed, but so far we have stumbled in gaining approval on where to site the sculpture. At present we are no further forward in obtaining the necessary permissions.
